ANIMAL HELP FOR ARTHRITIS
Health A-Z | June 22, 2010When I first read Harry Potter, and heard about the healing powers of the phoenix tears, I was but amazed. As the book claimed, the tears of this bird has immense healing capabilities. It has the power to heal any injury of the person, even if he/she is almost at the brink of death. Fawkes, the magical phoenix, produced his tears to heal the protagonist in the first book of the Harry Potter series, which was named ‘Chamber of Secrets’.
Coming back to the real world, you may be surprised to know that even our little more common friends from the wild are capable of healing more than you can ever imagine. Take a look at these hidden powers of the animal kingdom that can help you combat various forms of arthritis along with other problems.
EMU OIL
Effective against – Osteoarthritis, sore joints, bruises and cuts of any sort
The fatty tissue of the emu is where this oil is sourced from. The aborigines are believed to be the first ones to have discovered its healing properties. Emu oil works as a natural anti-inflammatory product, and is
also seen to be effective in the case of osteoarthritis.
COW AND BULL COLLAGEN
Effective against – Rheumatoid arthritis
Collagen is but a protein, which is responsible for connecting and supporting tissues that are present in the skin and muscles. Joints are generally damaged by the presence of rheumatoid factor and tumor necrosis
which can be found in faulty blood. These were seen to be reduced in levels when a bovine collagen supplement was introduced to the affected. An Argentian study helped arrive at this conclusion.
It is believed that the collagen, when ingested, will accumulate in the areas where joints are highly stressed, and they will help stimulate the cartilage cells. When this happens, the cells will produce more collagen,
and it will help in increasing the flexibility and mobility of those joints.
There are, however, some controversies regarding this form of treatment. The best way to go about this would be to have a word with your doctor.
SHARK CARTILAGE
Effective against – Osteoarthritis and cancer
Shark cartilage is elastic and capable of blocking enzymes that can cause it to further break down. It possesses these qualities because of the presence of a molecule called chondroitin. This molecule also shoulders the
responsibility of producing new cartilage as and when required. Given this virtue, it is believed that supplements containing shark cartilage would be effective in combating osteoarthritis and will help block its progress.
An independent study conducted in the U.S. went on to prove that this cartilage may also contain a protein that is capable of preventing the growth of tumors, thus making it effective against breast, brain and prostrate cancer.
