Calluses, which are skin conditions marked by hardening of skin, are formed when our skin frequently comes in contact with a surface or object. The skin takes the shape of calluses for avoiding potential injuries as a result of frequent contact with the object. The common body parts where the calluses are formed are the feet and hands. Usually, the calluses do not cause any pain and are harmless in nature. They can be removed easily at home through some simple steps. Below, we have discussed the method of removing calluses at home.

To ensure that the callus stays protected from further wear and tear, place a wear clothing or soft pad on the callus while going out or even moving around in your own house. Using soft pads made of gauze, cotton or silicone can effectively protect the calluses from all kinds of injury. The lesser the resistance and friction experienced by a callus, the more rapidly it will start diminishing.

Identify the habitual motion responsible for formation of the callus and stop making it. This step is more essential for individuals for whom covering the calluses is not possible.

Soaking the calluses in a solution of Epsom salt or salt water for a minimum of 20 minutes helps in speeding up the healing of the calluses.

You can also use pumice stones for sanding down your calluses. Pumice stones can be bought from any department store of your locality. Rubbing the calluses gently with these stones will gradually wear them without any injury or pain.

Another useful home remedy for calluses is chamomile tea. Prepare the tea by steeping chamomile leaves in boiling hot water. Now, soak your calluses into it for a minimum of 30 minutes. Follow this procedure up with rubbing the areas using a clean brush or towel; this will result in removal of the loose softened skin from your calluses.

The part of our body that starts showing up the signs of aging first is our face. One of the ugliest signs of aging that we get on our face is ‘crow’s feet’. Crow’s feet can be describes as the wrinkles appearing on the outer side of the eyes. Below, we have discussed some remedies that will rid you from those ugly lines and will also prevent further appearance of crow’s feet.

Start applying OTC eye serums or creams having moisturizing effects in them regularly around the eyes. If you are using a serum apply it around the eyes once every week; the gentle eye creams however, should be applied every day before going to bed. The eye serums have skin firming agents in them, which works by tightening up your wrinkled skin. As a result, the crow’s feet will gradually fade away.

Dab the region around the eyes using water and place a peeled potato slice on it. Wait for ten minutes and remove the slice. Doing this twice everyday will slowly remove the wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes. Applying egg whites around the eyes is also known to offer similar benefits.

A mix prepared by blending 1 teaspoon orange extracts and1 teaspoon lemon juice when applied on the crow’s feet and kept for ten minutes is known to yield miraculous results in removing the ugly wrinkles. Application of a mix of 1 tablespoon sesame oil and castor oil around the eyes will also show up great results as far as removing the crow’s feet is concerned.

For ensuring that you don’t get any new crow’s feet, you must avoid direct sun exposure. Use sunglasses, hats and sunblocks whenever you go out in the sun. Exfoliate and moisturize your skin on a regular basis. For preventing appearance of crow’s fit, you must also quit smoking. The more you smoke, the more will be your chances of having wrinkles.

Ingrown hairs are often painful and have a tendency of resulting in infections. The biggest problem with ingrown hairs is that they are unsightly. Women get ingrown hairs mostly in their groin region, face and legs; men on the other hand usually have ingrown hairs around their neck and face. Although infection prone and painful, ingrown hairs are not something for which you will need to visit a physician (a visit to the doctor is required only when the ingrown hairs are infected badly); certain home remedies can help you in getting rid of these hairs.

By mixing some easily available natural ingredients, you can create a concoction for treating your ingrown hairs. Mix 2 teaspoon lemon juice, 1 cup of sugar, ¼ cup of honey and 1and half teaspoon cornstarch. Microwave this mixture until it gets warm. Allow the mixture to cool down and add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to it. Now, the mixture is ready for application. Dap a little cornstarch on the body part with ingrown hairs and apply the concoction on it. Wait for 20 minutes and wash the area using warm water. A single application per day for 7 consecutive days should be enough for removing the ingrown hairs.

Both salt and sugar can be used for making effective exfoliating scrubs for loosening the ingrown hairs. However, you should never use sugar and salt together for this purpose. The procedure of using sugar and salt for removing ingrown hairs is same. First, dampen the affected body part; now, take either salt or sugar and gently rub it on that area using circular strokes. Continue the process for 5 minutes and wash the region using warm water.

Aspirin mask is another remedy for ingrown hairs. One of the active ingredients of aspirin is salicylic acid, which is an excellent exfoliator. Crush 3 to 4 uncoated aspirin tablets and add 1½ teaspoon jojoba oil (if you have oily skin, you should use water instead of jojoba oil) to it. Apply the mix onto the affected body part; wash the region using warm water after 10 minutes.

Pimples are caused by infections occurring due to bacteria. So, for getting rid of pimples these bacteria must be killed. The microbes responsible for causing pimples thrive within the clogged pores, in absence of oxygen. Due to this, oxygen automatically becomes an effective remedy for pimples.

How does oxygen kill pimple causing bacteria? Oxygen kills these bacteria by weakening the cell membranes, which allows the vital compounds of the pimple causing microbes to leak out. Oxygen impairs the reproducing ability of the bacteria. Application of oxygen is also known to reduce skin inflammation occurring due to the appearance of pimples. Besides all these, the production of elastin and collagen also increases when our skin gets exposed to oxygen.

How is oxygen applied to the pimple affected skin? You can apply oxygen onto your skin either by applying pressurized oxygen using a mask or by using a nebulizer (the nebulizer supplies wet oxygen). Other than these, you will also come across several oxygen containing skin care products like lotions, creams and face washes. Skin care products containing benzoyl peroxide generates oxygen after being applied on the skin and thus is widely used for treating pimples. There are clinics that offer treatments using blue LED lights; this therapeutic procedure is another way of initiating the process of oxygen release onto the skin.

When the oxygen therapy for pimple removal is done in a clinical setup, the patient needs to undergo laser microdermabrasion before the actually oxygen therapy starts. Laser microdermabrasion is done for skin exfoliation or removal of dead cells from the skin. This process is followed by a hydrating treatment. After these two steps, the actual oxygen therapy begins. Oxygen is applied onto the affected regions in form of mist or gas; in most cases beneficial vitamins are also applied to nourishing the skin.

Amla or Indian gooseberry is an antioxidant rich herb that works as a remedy for a number of physical ailments. The fruit of amla is used widely as a rich source of vitamin C. This is one of the most popular Ayurvedic herbs. Besides offering several health benefits, amla is known for its great anti-aging effects. You can use both powdered amla and the fresh fruit of amla for revitalizing your skin. In this article we have discussed the procedure in which amla should be used for skin care.

Skin Care Using Amla Tea

Fill a pot with 4 cups water and add 2 teaspoon of amla powder into it. Next, add 2 teaspoon of ginger powder to the pot.

Stir the water so that the two herbal powders blend well with the water.

Boil the mix until the quantity of water gets reduced to around 3 cups. While boiling keep the pot covered.

Now, allow the boiled mixture to steep for 20 to 30 minutes.

Strain using a cheese cloth or mesh strainer to obtain a herbal infusion.

Drink the infusion adding honey with it. Drinking this tea twice every day will rid you from all the skin problems and will also prevent the aging signs like wrinkles and fine lines.

Skin Care Using Fresh Amla

Take a few pieces of fresh amla fruit and soak them in a cupful of water overnight in a refrigerator. When you wake up in the morning, remove the soaked pieces of amla fruit from the water and wash your face using it.

Consuming the fresh amla fruit like any other vegetable is also good for skin health. If it tastes too sour, you can a pinch of sea salt to it.

Boil fresh amla fruit and prepare a paste using them. Applying the paste on the skin will make you skin smooth and blemish free.

As we grow older, our skin starts losing its tightness. The herbal remedies discussed below might help you maintaining the tightness of your skin and correcting the loose skin up to a great extent.

The tea tree oil and oatmeal mix:

To prepare this mix, buy a bottle of high quality tea tree oil and whole grain, organic oatmeal. Oatmeal is known to possess anti-inflammatory properties and is an excellent healing agent for skin that has suffered from traumas like sunburn and wind. Oatmeal works by exfoliating our skin and in the process also helps in tightening up the loose skin. The other significant feature of oatmeal that makes it an excellent skin tightening agent is its ability of reducing the size of the large skin pores. The other ingredient of this mix, tea tree oil, on the other hand possesses antimicrobial properties. This oil is extremely helpful in ridding the skin from infections. Tea tree oil can also hydrate our skin making it look more smooth and supple.

The witch hazel mix:

This herb contains tannins. Tannins can be used as astringents for tightening up loose skin. As we grow older the skin around our eyes becomes loose and gets a swelling appearance; the tannins in witch hazel can also help in removing this swelling. Another key ingredient of this herb is proanthocyancidins; it is a compound offering antioxidants effects to our skin. The tightness of the skin starts reducing when cellular structures of elastin and collagen break down; the main factors behind the breakdown of these cellular structures are aging and oxidation. The antioxidants present in witch hazel prevent the skin damages occurring due to the free radicals and thus successfully stop further appearance of wrinkles and loosening of skin.

Mask prepared using thyme oil and egg white:

Egg white promotes collagen production and thyme oil works by hydrating our skin. The combination of these 2 agents tightens up loose skin effectively.

Lavender oil is one of most beneficial essential oils for our skin health. This essential oil posses a wonderful fragrance and intense healing properties. There are several skin care recipes that involve use of lavender oil in combination with herbal extracts and other essential oils. According to theories of aromatherapy, lavender oil should never be used alone. You must blend it with one or more carrier oils before applying it on your skin. Below we have discussed how lavender oil helps in skin care.

Lavender oil is known for its anti-inflammatory properties; this makes it a perfect remedy for insect bites. It can be a simple mosquito bite or a serious bee sting, application of lavender oil on the affected region of the skin will arrest inflammation and reduce irritation around the region. After the application of this essential oil, there will be no more redness and swelling in the site of the insect bite. The anti-inflammatory effects of this oil also help in treating sunburns. Severe sunburn often results in skin irritation and redness of the skin. Application of lavender oil in combination with carrier oil soothes the skin affected by sunburns instantly. Lavender oil never fails to show effects. Our skin absorbs the oil quickly and within a jiffy, you will start experiencing the soothing effects of lavender oil. However, you must not apply lavender oil on an open wound; doing so may aggravate the condition.

Lavender oil will also come in handy if you are looking to get the waxing done at home. Using lavender oil during the process will help you in preventing the skin problems associated with waxing. Adding a few drops of the oil to water before taking bath, will rejuvenate your skin and make you look fresher. The oil can also be used for scribing your foot. Using lavender oil for body massage will relax your tissues and muscles.

Extract juice from one garlic clove and apply it on the area with mole. Cover the area with a bandage. Repeating this for a few days will remove the mole naturally.

Pineapple is also an excellent remedy for moles. However, make sure that you are using freshly cut pineapples for the purpose. Put a piece of pineapple on the affected region of the skin; this can be repeated as many times as you want in a day.

Applying juice extracted from fig stems can also help in mole removal. A paste prepared from the leaves of fig is also an effective home remedy for moles.

If you want to remove warty moles, dandelion will offer you the desired results. Rub dandelion roots on the moles you want to remove; continue rubbing till the juice from the root exudes and smears the mole completely. Doing this 2 to 3 times daily will eliminate your moles.

Flaxseed is another useful home remedy for mole removal. Flaxseeds are applied directly on the areas with moles and within some days you will find your moles vanishing.

Another frequently used home remedy for warty moles is onion. Applying juice taken out from an onion bulb on the affected skin area regularly will successfully remove your moles. However, this remedy is only effective for the smaller moles.

The skin care benefits offered by honey are immense. Honey can help our skin to absorb and retain moisture. It is used for beauty enhancing therapies since the ancient times for maintaining smooth, radiant and youthful skin.

Honey has natural antimicrobial and antioxidant properties which protect out skin from damages caused by sunrays. The properties of honey also make it an excellent rejuvenating agent; often honey is used for refreshing depleted skin and making it smooth and supple.

The most common skin care application of honey is for the treatment of acne. Acne can occur due to hormonal imbalances or extreme production of heat by our body. Honey being a perfect cleansing agent can absorb the impurities from our skin pores efficiently. This stops the acne causing bacteria from invading out skin. Below we have discussed a few honey based skin care recipes that will allow you to have clear and smooth skin naturally:

Honey toners: Honey toners can be prepared in 2 ways, one by mixing honey with cucumber puree and one by mixing honey and pulse with apple. The toners must be applied smoothly on the face and kept for around 15 minutes; after that you must rinse it off using water.

Honey scrub: Mix 1 tablespoon each of finely grounded almonds and honey, 2 tablespoon of dry oatmeal and any one of one tablespoon of yogurt or one teaspoon of lemon juice. Massage this mixture gently on your face for 5 minutes and then rinse of using water.

Honey cleanser: Prepare a cleanser by mixing ¼ cup of honey, ½ cup of glycerin and 1 tablespoon of liquid soap. Apply it gently on your face with a soft face sponge and rinse off using warm water.

Once you enter the phase of the mid 20s, a lot of things change in your life. Firstly, there is the mid-life crisis that you have to deal with. Like that wasn’t enough, you’ll also have to worry about skin aging and the after effects. However, did you know that most of your aging skin crisis can be blamed upon external factors that speed up this process? Most of these will be decisions that are health and lifestyle based. If you make unhealthy choices, it could end up taking a toll on your skin for life. This would mean you’d end up looking older, and that too way faster.

An important part of any anti-aging skin care regime would be to know what you are currently doing wrong, that is leading to the process of faster aging skin.

Here are some habits that may be robbing your skin of its youthful plumpness.

Smoke from Cigarettes:

Regardless of whether you smoke yourself or have a partner who smokes, all that smoke is going to rob the years from your skin. As per research, exposure to smoke will increase the chances of dryness of skin, as well as wrinkles. This is partly said to be due to the behavior of smoking and also due to the fact that cigarette smoke could deplete your body of Vitamin C; and this vitamin is said to be an integral ingredient that helps keep the skin moist and plump.

Exposure to the Sun:

Exposure to the sun is said to add to skin aging. If you keep your skin unprotected, it will make your skin appear mottled in appearance. You’ll have freckles at first, which will eventually turn into sun spots that look brown. Your skin will begin looking dry and leathery; and the sagging and eventually the wrinkles will increase. Uninhibited sun exposure would also put you at a risk of skin cancer.

Try and assess the amount of damage that is caused by the sun, and this would help you to rule out the possibility of skin cancers. He/she would be able to help you try and reducing the existing damage that has been caused by sun damage.

If you want to try and give the sagging skin a miss, but cannot avoid going out in the sun, make sure that you’re well armed with your sunscreen. This will protect you against UVB and UVA rays. Try and choose sunscreens that are well stocked on the SPF quotient (15 or above). Make sure that you use sunscreen all the year through and even on the cloudy days. Clouds are known to protect you from all types of UV radiations.

Lack of Exercise:

If you live a sedentary life, it will end up contributing to skin aging. Exercising your body will help tone the muscles of your face, and will also get your blood flowing. Every anti-aging skin care regime should include exercise as a part of it. Moreover, if you do not indulge in any sort of exercising, it would put you at a risk for dementia.

If you indulge in some sort of physical activity on a regular basis, it will help you keep that smile on your face and give you a lot of energy, and will help you feel and look young, regardless of your age.

Use of Alcohol:

Alcohol will dilate the smaller blood vessels that you have, in your skin, and this will end up increasing the blood flow to the regions close to the surface of the skin. Over a period of time, these blood vessels would end up undergoing a fair amount of permanent damage. This would end up creating an appearance of being flushed; and you will also be able to almost see the broken vessels on the surface of the skin.

Stress:

Stress has a huge role to play in all that frowning; and if you frown too much, chances are that your face might just stay that way. If you want to avoid the skin damage being caused due to stress, you could try and include yoga and meditation in your skin care regime. If you keep your stress levels in check, it could help reduce the incidence of skin wrinkles and this would leave you looking younger for longer.

Inadequate Sleep:

If you do not get the hours of sleep that you need, it would end up making you feel tired and sleepy perennially. Lack of sleep will first show its effects on your face; and is most likely to manifest itself in the form of dark circles. Reduce your caffeine intake during the day, and try and avoid eating anything in the last two hours of rundown to your bedtime.

Some signs of aging are going to be inevitable. However, you could try your best to minimize the damage.
