Locally Processed Honey Evades Risks of Seasonal Allergies
When spring arrives, come along the alarming seasonal allergies which further bring along uneasy and annoying symptoms like runny noses, sneezing, itching of the skin, coughing, watery eyes, and lots more of them. Pollen multiplicity is one of the leading and major causes of most seasonal allergies. Much of the pollen density arrives and departs within the span of a few weeks, but the problem is that they are all scattered. A few here and a few there can altogether overlap a good deal of population under the allergic symptoms, giving out a burst in allergy. According to medical professionals and institutes, if a person is quite prone towards allergic attacks of pollen, then prevention serves better than any cure. While curative medications like nasal sprays (anti- inflammatory in nature) and antihistamine tabs are always available  [...]

Rheumatoid Arthritis Linked To Smoking Habit
According to a new research study conducted, there is evidence that almost one third of severe and common forms of rheumatoid arthritis can be accounted to smoking. This study has thrown light on cigarette smoking as one of the important causes of this subtype of arthritis. According to the study, the smoking habit is said to account for more than 50% of the cases wherein the people were also genetically at risk of the disease. This would mean that a genetic predisposition to arthritis, combined with a habit of smoking could spell doom. The research was conducted by researchers at the Karolinska Institute of Stockholm. The researchers chose around 1,200 people who were affected by rheumatoid arthritis. Around 871 people were also chosen to match for sex and age; however, they were free from the disease. The patients of arthritis  [...]

  • Alcohol drug – The Biggest Drug Of Them All
Alcohol drug – The Biggest Drug Of Them All
As per some recent reports that have surfaced in UK, alcohol could be the most dangerous of all drugs that are being consumed in the UK. To reach the number one spot, alcohol has beat even heroin and crack cocaine. This study has sort of opened the doors for the drugs classification system and the time seems to have come for it to be resorted or redone. The study was conducted by David Nutt, a sacked government drugs adviser and his colleagues; all of whom were sacked with him. As per the study, if drugs were to be ranked on the basis of the harm they can cause for, alcohol should come into Class A, alongside crack cocaine and heroin. Last year, Nutt and his colleagues were sacked because they went against the committee that claimed that cannabis were not as harmful, and thus should be downsized to being a Class C drug. Nutt, then,  [...]

    Dengue Steals Commonwealth Games’ Spotlight
The Commonwealth games that are due to take place in India this year have been running into a number of problems time and again; and most of these have to do with the city of Delhi and the country, India, as a whole. The first worry that gripped the Indian officials was that of the River Yamuna swelling with each passing day; and it not showing any signs of receding. If it doesn’t recede in time, the whole city of Delhi could be swept awash. If that happens, the officials of the Commonwealth games will be in deep water, both literally and metaphorically! Like this wasn’t trouble enough, there is new trouble brewing. The Current Scenario: Dengue fever has taken over the capital city of India; and unfortunately, this is the venue for this year’s Commonwealth Games. India is said to be gearing up for the welcome of around 8000  [...]

  • Grain sized brains
    Grain sized brains
It sounds a lot like the kind of thing you would entertain on a flight of fancy, but don’t think that this news is a step too far or that you’ve waked straight into a twisted April Fools prank. Canadian scientists have managed to bridge a gap between fiction and reality by successfully melding human brain cells and that ultimate symbol of artificial intelligence, the silicon chip as they attempt to tune in to and understand more about the manner in which the neurons communicate. Don’t be alarmed though, a Terminator isn’t going to be coming after you any time soon. It’s a micro-chip sized brain, and the medical advances it promises are staggering. It’ll help scientists understand how brain cells perform and go about their task in the normal way of functioning and thus record their activities and abnormalities which will  [...]

Doctors Remove Foot From Inside Baby’s Brain
In the latest of miracles, doctors extracted a tumor from a newborn baby’s brain. The tumor was shaped like a foot. It was in the shape of a perfectly formed foot. There were other parts of the foot, a half formed thigh and a hand as well. A Pediatric neurosurgeon, Dr. Paul Grabb, was the first one to discover this unusual happening. The operation was carried out on the three day old baby, named Sam Esquibel, after doctors noticed a microscopic tumor in his brain. The Baby’s Health - The baby was otherwise seen to be quite healthy; and didn’t seem to be complaining about anything. According to those who witnessed this sight, it was almost like Sam’s story came right out from Greek Mythology. God Zeus was said to have produced Athena, his daughter, out of his forehead. They claim that she came out fully-grown,  [...]

Botox Shots Thwart Some Forms of Migraine Headaches
A pilot study indicated that the same form of botulinum shot employed for age-defying treatments could be linked to lowered occurrences of migraine headaches which are illustrated as severe, vice-similar or ocular (eye-exploding) types, however not for pains which are sensed as a kind of pressure building up within the head. Migraine headaches affect nearly twenty-eight million people in the United States and mostly cause incapacitating pain, according to backdrop data in the current month’s editorial ‘Archives of Dermatology’. Investigators performed quantifiable studies on botulinum toxin type A for treating age lines on the face, identified an association in-between botox shots and the allaying of migraine signs. The authors wrote that the preliminary outcomes guarantee of a novel preventative treatment for migraines being  [...]
