There are many ups and downs in one’s life, which is why depression has become a common occurring phenomenon in our lives. It is a mood disorder which is characterized by sadness and gloominess. It doesn’t mean that anyone who feels sad is gripped by depression. This is because sadness affects us from time to time. With the passage of time, we learn to get rid away of our daily lives depression. However, if depression lingers around for more than two weeks and intensifies with the extending time, then it may be correctly called depression. Depression is a serious mental condition that stops us from entering the doors where we can lead normal life. It thrusts a person in dark pitch of sadness, gloominess, worthlessness, helplessness, changes in sleep patterns and weight. Ultimately, adversely afflicting a person’s family life, professional life, school life, sleeping habits, eating habits and health.
The most horrifying symptom of depression is changing sleeping patterns. Most studies have asserted results that more than eighty percent of people facing depression suffer sleeping problems such as Insomnia and Hypomania.
Terrifying Sleeping disorders
Insomnia is a grave sleeping disorder. It is a serious condition where the sufferer gets very little sleep or no quality, deep sleep. This horrifying situation occurs because an individual is crushed under the burden of too much depression. It is the most common symptom exhibited by depressed people.
Hypomania is another form of sleeping disorder where the sufferer typically sleeps for too long. Experimental studies have reported that persons suffering from depression sleep as long as 20 hours. Compared to insomnia, hypomania is very less common.
Depression is one of the major problems that affect the lives of people poorly. It is a silent killer. It inflicts one’s sleep in adverse manner; an individual who is the victim of this dangerous illness can’t get quality sleep. Sufferer enduring this harsh disorder faces sleeping problems such as feeling of sleepiness or sleeping too much. I am sharing few of the sleeping problems below:
- While the sufferer gets to bed for gaining some recomposing sleep, he can’t get to sleep that easily. He finds difficulty in going to other world. He constantly turns from one side to another, thinking over the excruciating thoughts that have occupied space in the brain.
- Sufferer gets disrupted between sleep. This is not caused by outside disturbances, but is a problem where he frequently wakes in the middle of the dark night, and finds getting back to sleep a tough task.
- This case is not as common as the above. Here, the person falls asleep for a very long period and finds getting out of the bed almost impossible. And when he wakes up, he feels less vibrant compared to normal people. It has been reported that about 15% of the depressed people oversleep.
- Depressed people also suffer from the problem of waking up very early in the morning, after which they can’t get back to sleep again. Sleeps is very essential for the body as we need some time for getting refreshed and recharge our exhausted batteries. However, the uncertain wake up call disrupts the whole recomposing process, which keeps the person at low energy throughout the day.
