A ‘family’ is made up of many things like relations, emotions, fluctuations, togetherness and  traditions. Family is a bonding and feeling of security and stability. The words cannot ever capture the feeling and happiness of being within a family or bonded to a family. A person is born in a family and dies in family. Each and every actions of a human are related to his or her family some way or the other. However, the various attachments or the detachments of the family can also lead to various kinds of depressions and sadness.  Myrna Weissman, PhD and a professor of epidemiology and psychiatry at Colombia University says that depression is highly familial. A family is the only ‘root’ of many gladness and depression.

Many researchers have found that if a person from a certain family is suffering with some type of depression, he or she can lead to the reason of the same in many others in the family. In addition to this, it can also be possible that if the grandfather is suffering with depression, it can also affect the father and grandson and even their sons. In other words, some researchers say that if some one will illustrate a tree of depression within a family it can show its branches of anxiety disorders, panic attacks, excessive fears etc diagonally for three more generations. It can show a long way of appearance in many forms.

Many doctors say that depression can occur in a human being or in a child because of some chemical imbalances in the brain and they say that it is a medical illness of the brain which do not have any kind of psychological cause. In addition to this, many people can also have depression that does not have the family background of the same mental disease. The problems of stress and psychological factors are also added to the inception. However, many of the depressions arise from generation to generation in many of the families but not with a clear frequency which causes the clear biological causes. Here, a lot of psychological factors play a very important role to create severe form of depression. Mostly, the main reason behind the depression is the psychological factor whether mild or moderate or reactive depression. Those people who have an excessive feeling of self-esteem and constantly look at themselves and the world with negativity can have the disease of depression. The social learning factors can also play a very important role of depression in addition to other psychological problems. Apart from all these, work stress, chronic illness, relationship hazards, family crisis or financial problem can also lead to depression. In a family, the relationships, financial and some type of crisis can always lead to a depression apart from all genetic problems. The people, who are not able to take positively the life changes, always suffer with depression. Very frequently, a combination of biological, psychological or even many environmental factors are involved for many kinds of depression in and outside the family. In addition to the family history of depression the other reason the same can also be lack of social support, loneliness, current stressful life occurrence, financial nervous tension , unemployment, or underemployment , early childhood trauma or abuse , marital relation problems , alcohol or drug abuse etc.

Like for example, the feeling of helpless and hopeless, thrashing interest in the day-to-day works, weight and appetite changes or sleep changes like sleeping more or less than the normal, irritation or restlessness. Loss of energy or the feeling of fatigue, physically drained and sluggish, the feeling of self loathing, strong feelings of worthlessness or responsibility. In addition to these the problems of concentration like trouble in focusing on some particular work or making decisions or remembering even small things in the home can also be added to the list of having a digression. The women who are in the home for all the time can have these kinds of depressions like forgetting small things in family works or having unexplained pains an increased physical pain like headache, back pain, aching muscles or even the stomach pain. At times the hobbies and friends that are related to someone may not be that much interesting when one is in depression. At times, if a person is depressed in a family can also have an unusual obsession with death or dying.  If in a family the parents are in depression there are hundred percent chances that the child can also has the same. Depression is a complicated and combined disorder of genes and environment. However, the scientists are not yet able to find out any reason that depends upon the genes for depression. The researchers are doing study on the genetics of early-onset depression. They actually combined together the various causes and did ‘gemnomewide association study’ on the many issues of depression. The study was finished in 2003 and gave the scientists a new organism of a complete set of DNA from many people who were scanned to find the genetic variations which also result into common and severe type of diseases like cancer, asthma, heart diseases and mental illness like depression.

The various causes of depression is differs from person to person and thus the ways to combat that are also different. The way that works for one person may not work for others. There is not any particular treatment for this in a clinical way or even in psychological way. The first step is to understand the reason behind the depression and find the ways to fight with that. As the reason is recognized, one should try to explore the steps to fight with that. The best step is self-help strategies, changes in the lifestyle and getting help in the professional front. In this busy day-to-day life, the life style always becomes the reason of depression. In this case, one should make some small or big changes in lifestyle and this can lead to survive the mental tension. However, at times lifestyle changes can become a big issue.
